This year at #BlogHer17, we are bringing Hatch back to the mainstage! We first introduced our signature Generation Z initiative at #BlogHer15 with Hatch Labs, and the Hatch program is returning for its third year as a keynote. On Saturday, June 24th, our closing keynote will feature our Hatch Kids in a discussion on “Advice to My 7th Grade Self”, which coincides with the launch of a new #HatchKids video series of the same name.
#HatchKids Reed, Zaki, Elyssa, and Jojo—all of whom are between 12 and 13 years old – will take the stage to ask adults they look up to what they would have told their younger selves about surviving puberty, middle school and high school, overcoming insecurities and acquiring self-confidence, as well as finding the courage to chase their dreams.
Moderating our conversation will be Gabrielle Reece, a world-renowned athlete, TV personality, New York Times bestselling author, model, wife and mother. The former professional beach volleyball player was Nike’s first female spokeswoman is also appearing at the #WinningWomen: Demystifying Peak Performance keynote that was announced earlier this week.
Joining our #HatchKids and Gabrielle are two women who are serious about mentorship and being a positive role model to the younger generation.
Quincy Davis is a 22-year-old professional surfer hailing from Montauk, New York. It was there that she rode her first wave, received a sponsorship from Volcom at age 12, and became a standout on the junior tour, winning contests around the world. She spends her summers supporting environmental charities and mentoring young girls through Montauk Board Riders All Girls Surf Camp and most recently is working on a fashion collaboration with Volcom.
Charli Howard is a British born model and aspiring writer, hailing from South-East London. After refusing to accept the pressures to conform to the unrealistic body standards of the high fashion modeling industry, Charli took the risk of speaking out and is now an advocate for teenagers and young women for body positivity. With no plans to change the standards of the fashion industry, she hopes to continue the message to make room for all by not finding beauty in a number.
Through our Hatch program, we aim to give tweens and teens a voice to discuss digital literacy and the issues that are most pertinent to them. These conversations are our way to create impactful digital content that empowers and educates the next generation of thought leaders.
